초록

본 연구는 국내 외국인 노동자의 송금 결정요인을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 취업 가능한 체류자격은 비전문취업(E-9), 방문 취업(H-2) 및 전문 인력(E-1~E-7)으로 구분된다. 체류자격별 송금 결정에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하기 위하여 법무부･통계청의 “2019년 이민자 체류실태 및 고용조사”자료를 이용하였고, 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 가족 결합요인은 송금 비율에 상당한 영향을 미친다. 배우자나 자녀와 한국에 함께 체류하지 않는 외국인 노동자는 그렇지 않은 외국인 노동자에 비해 총소득에서 송금이 차지하는 비율이 증가한다. 이는 이타적 동기에 의한 송금의 증가로 볼 수 있다. 둘째, 거주 점유형태는 송금비율과 밀접한 관련을 갖는다. 회사 등에서 무상으로 제공하는 숙소에 거주할 경우 소득 대비 송금 비율이 높다. 주거비가 절약된 만큼 더 많이 송금을 할 수 있기 때문이다. 셋째, 국내 입국 전 미취업 상태였거나 낮은 소득수준을 가졌던 경험이 있는 노동자의 경우 송금 비율은 더 높다. 이와 같은 실증분석 결과를 통해 향후 가족 결합과 주거비 감면 등의 측면을 고려한 이민정책의 시행을 고려할 필요성이 제기된다.
