본 연구는 2024년부터 가족센터를 중심으로 확대된 이중언어 교육지원사업 중 ‘이중언어 교실’의 운영 실태와 개선 방안을 질적으로 분석하였다. 전국 가족센터 이중언어코치 5명, 이중언
어강사 5명, 결혼이민자 학부모 11명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하고 내러티브 분석을 통해
자료를 해석하였다. 연구 결과, 이중언어 교실은 다문화가정 자녀의 이중언어 태도 변화, 부모
모어에 대한 긍정적 인식, 가족 관계 및 정체성 형성에 기여하는 것으로 나타났다. 동시에 예산
제약, 분반의 어려움, 교재･교수법 미비, 중국어･베트남어 중심의 편중 등 구조적 한계가 확인
되었다. 이에 정책･교수학･환경 차원의 개선 과제를 제안하였다.
This study qualitatively examines the operation of “bilingual classrooms” in family
centers, introduced nationwide in 2024 as part of Korea’s bilingual education support
policy for multicultural families. In-depth interviews were conducted with five
bilingual coaches, five bilingual instructors, and eleven marriage-migrant parents,
and the data were analyzed using a narrative approach. Findings show that the
program helps children develop more positive attitudes toward bilingualism,
strengthens recognition of the mother’s language and culture, and improves family
relationships and identity formation. At the same time, structural limitations were
identified, including budget constraints, mixed-ability grouping, lack of age- and
language-appropriate materials and pedagogy, and a strong focus on Chinese and
Vietnamese. The study suggests policy, pedagogical, and environmental directions to
enhance the quality and equity of bilingual education in family centers.
