초록

Although contemporary migration is characterized by increased numbers and a large unauthorized population, little research has been done to explore the territory that has been addressed since the emergence of academic attention to undocumented students. To provide a comprehensive and deeper understanding of the current landscape of education for undocumented students in the United States, the aim of this study is to analyze recent trends in research on undocumented students and identify key issues in educating students of precarious status. Findings of this study give insight into the situation so far and what we need to do to empower undocumented students who are confronted with challenging situations.

현대 사회에서 신자유주의가 국가의 경계를 넘어 확산되면서, 불법 이민과 노동, 이로인한 미등록 이주민의 증가가 전지구적 현상으로 확대되어가고 있다. 이로 인해 미등록 이주 학생에 대한 학술적 관심 역시 폭발적으로 증가하고 있지만, 그동안 이루어진 학술적인논의의 지형을 파악하고 이를 종합적으로 고찰하려는 시도는 거의 이루어지지 않았다. 미등록 이주 아동의 교육 문제에 대한 해법을 모색하기 위해서는, 무엇보다 미등록 이주 학생들이 직면하고 있는 제반 쟁점들을 파악하고 교육 현장에서 이들을 지원하기 위한 실천적인 방안들을 탐색해볼 필요가 있다.
