초록

본 연구는 중국 출생 북한이탈주민 자녀의 이주경험을 정체성 협상을 중심으로 탐색하였다. 정체성 협상이란 개인이 타자와 세계와의 관계 속에서 자신의 정체성을 재구성해가는 과정을 능동적이고 주체적인 측면에서 이해한 것이다. 본 연구에서는 중국 출생 북한이탈주민 자녀 5명을 연구참여자로 선정하고 사례연구방법을 활용하여 자료를 수집･분석하였다. 중국 출생 북한이탈주민 자녀들은 자기이해, 문화와 언어의 차이 넘기, 엄마의 아픔과 나의 외로움을 인정하기, 우리와 그들 사이에 존재하기의 4개 범주에서 정체성 협상을 이루어 가고 있다. 이들의 경험을 통해 중국 출생 북한이탈주민 자녀들은 이주와 정착 과정에서 자기 경험에 대해 개인적 의미를 부여하고, 자신의 자리를 찾아가는 주체로서 존재하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 주류 사회 구성원들이 중도입국청소년들의 다양한 정체성을 인정하고, 그들을 주체로서 대하는 타자지향적 자세가 필요함을 시사점으로 제언하였다.

This study is a qualitative study on the migration experience and explores identity negotiation of North Korean defectors children born in China. Identity negotiation is an active and subjective understanding of the process by which an individual reconstructs his/her identity in relation to others and the world. In this study, North Korean defectors five children born in China were selected as research participants and the data were collected and analyzed using the case study method. The migration experience of North Korean defectors children born in China includes four categories in negotiating identity: self-understanding, overcoming cultural and language differences, acknowledging mother's pain and loneliness, and crossing boundaries with others. Through their experiences, it was confirmed that the North Korean defectors children born in China were given personal meaning to their experiences in the process of migration and settling, and existed as subjects seeking their place. It was suggested that the members of the mainstream society should recognize the diverse identities of middle-age immigrants and take an other-oriented attitude toward them as subjects.
